Group of companies “Alfa Group” of Mikhail Fridman invited the Swedish media holding Modern Times Group (MTG) to buy its share of "STS Media" holding, reported by Interfax, citing company data.
“Alfa Group” plans to sell 25 percent stake in the holding for a billion dollars. Proposal to MTG, which already owns 38 percent stake in STS Media, valid until May 25 this year.
At the same time, “Alfa Group” negotiates to sell its stake to the National Media Group (NMG). According to the Interfax agency, negotiated price is not lower than that which was proposed by Swedish MTG.
According to analysts of UniCredit bank, the buyer is more likely to be the NMG, as in the Russian market share of foreign investors in the company shall not exceed 50 percent.
By the end of 2010, revenues of the holding "STS Media", which includes channels “STS”, "Domashny" and “DTV”, was 601.3 million dollars (US GAAP), which more than in 2009 by 19 percent. The company's profit reached 145.7 million dollars.
NMG owns REN TV, “Channel Five” and the publishing house "Izvestia". The group also owns shares in "Video International" and "Channel One".
